Preproduction


Experience Goals

  • Players will play as a farmer during the Vietnam War. 
  • Players will have to plant crops and slowly work to gain more money by selling the finished products.
  • Players will have to get money to buy better equipment, workers and seeds which will give more money when sold.
  • Players will have to avoid American soldiers while they travel from different farms

Design Goals

  • The game will have an Oriental aesthetic, the player will be working mainly in a rice field but other areas will be available to grow other seeds.
  • The game will be dull in colour, as the setting is quite sombre.
  • It will be a 2D top-down

Game Mechanics 

  • The main mechanics of the game will include farming, planting seed and collecting the finished product when the crops have fully grown.
  • Minor mechanics would be hiding in a bush to avoid the Americans, interacting with NPCs, as there will be a village in the game.

Special Hardware

  • NPCs which can be interactive in the village or can be the American soldiers that slowly walk around and you must avoid them.
  • The crops growing and seeing them change frames the closer they get to fully grown.

Game Subject Matter

  • The subject matter is the Vietnam War. I wanted to incorporate it into my game as I was interested in creating a farming game, but want to make it unique by adding ideas that are associated with a historical time period and something that is related to me, seeing as I'm Vietnamese.
